Managing Your Family’s Busy Schedule

A typical day in the average household with an infant, toddler, or preschool child can be extremely busy. From little league dads and soccer moms, to swim practices, piano lessons, games, and competitions, a typical family day can be full from early morning to late night.

Every family has their own commitment and values that determine how time is spent. While the activities can be fun and desirable, it is still important to approach each task with careful planning and consideration. As you consider your schedule, personal time, activities, and commitments, take a look at these ideas for managing your family’s busy schedule.

  1. Before you say, “Yes,” consider what your family could accomplish if you were free during time required for the activity. Making a balanced decision means committing to a task and being unavailable for other needs.
  2. Does the activity distract from more valuable activities like family gatherings, meals together, or learning activities? If so, be cautious about and length of time you are willing to commit.
  3. Ask questions. Try to determine exactly how much time will be required if you commit to the activity.
  4. Consolidate your schedule. Look at our schedule and see if you can consolidate any activities. For example, our Enrichment Classes are offered at the Kids ‘R’ Kids of North Flower Mound preschool, which helps you avoid taking the time on another day.
  5. Discuss the schedule with your family. Pay attention to the commitment level. Is the schedule creating too much stress? Is your child having fun, learning and growing through the activity? Would you child enjoy a more convenient activity just as well?
  6. Will the activity hinder your child’s learning experience in preschool? A busy schedule motivates some children to do better in school. Others children find too many activities to be a distraction.
  7. Does the activity distract from family values and goals? If so, seriously seek to find a more suitable way to spend your time.

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of North Flower Mound, we understand the challenge of managing a busy family schedule, especially for parents with children in daycare or childcare. That’s why we offer our Before and After School Program to provide a safe, fun, and nurturing environment for children ages 5 through 12 years of age. We are committed to supporting our parents to help create a balanced schedule and the best experience for infants, toddlers, and preschool children. We hope you will stop by for a tour of our Learning Academy and meet our staff to see the many ways we can benefit your family.
